McKayne met us as planned and was very helpful – he explained how to hook up the trailer and assisted with different tasks as we got on our way. The camper was clean, cute, and looked exactly as described on Outdoorsy.We had previously explained that we would be dry camping (no electric or water/septic hook-up). He had assured us that the battery was charged and that the camper would function in that situation. Unfortunately the battery was very close to dead and could only hold a charge for a few hours (not a few days as promised). Every time the battery died, an alarm would go off in the camper, which meant that we actually had to leave the camper and find people close by who would take us in for the night. The alarm was persistent and very loud, making it impossible for our dogs or ourselves to stay in it.The following day we determined that we need to charged the battery with our Jeep just before going to bed, and then shut off everything (including the gas fridge) each night, in order to make it until the morning without the alarm going off. Given that we lost the contents of our freezer using this system, we decided to substitute McKayne's battery with our own (we had brought a spare to use for a fan and similar items, but ended up using it to run the camper). Once we hooked up our own battery, all was well and we finished the final days of our trip without alarms.I would recommend this camper for hook-up situations at campgrounds but under no circumstances should you ever rent this camper for going off grid. We lost three days of our seven day trip to dealing with the alarms, and we had to spend one night somewhere else. When you think of the exorbitant cost per night of renting the camper (over $200 USD per night), this was brutal and very frustrating.When my spouse brought the camper back McKayne did not apologize or offer to discount us for the one night and troubles. instead, he persisted in stating that there was nothing wrong with the battery. And I think that this is what made it worse. A little humanity goes a long way...
