I booked the "Laverne" back in February. I got a message from the hosts letting me know that the side curtain airbags had been singed in a grease fire, that they might not be working, and needed to be replaced. They were still renting the van regardless, and asked me to sign an airbag waiver, which I was not comfortable with. I brushed it off, was friendly and flexible, and agreed to switch to another van in their fleet ("Shirley") even though I was disappointed. Looking back, it's a red flag to me that they're still renting out a vehicle whose airbags are compromised and asking people to sign waivers outside of the Outdoorsy platform.They had listed the check in time on Outdoorsy as 11 AM. When I went to review all the details for van check in, I noticed Bri listed the check in time as two hours later at 1 PM in her message. I asked her about it, and she said the van would be ready at 11:40 at the earliest, and I didn't get the go-ahead that everything was ready until after 12 PM. This was inconvenient for us, as we had to pay for multiple Lyft rides to and from our Airbnb. Again, I just rolled with it and was flexible and friendly. They charge people for both early check in and late check out, but did not offer us anything for the discrepancy.When we got to the van the check in went fairly smoothly, although the state of the van was different from the photos. They clearly put a lot of work and attention to detail when they first got these vans, but unfortunately ours hadn't been maintained. The very cool and fancy fridge / freezer listed was instead a missing cabinet drawer and replaced by a dorm-ready mini fridge without a freezer. Things were scratched and dented, there was a big circle of gluey residue on the dash from the last phone mount. There was duct tape on a couple things, including the fan and one of the lights outside. We decided to pick our battles and make the best of it. It was a birthday trip I'd been looking forward to for a long time.Only a handful of hours after check in, we tried to lay down and use the combo vent fan above the bed. We have the exact same one / remote in our van at home, and are familiar with how to use it. The air wouldn't blow in. It only functions as a ventilation system to, for example, vent air out if you're cooking in the van, which isn't allowed anyway. It doesn't blow air on you, and without it the van honestly isn't habitable in this very hot and humid climate. Even after dark, we couldn't be in the van for more than a few minutes unless we were driving around with the A/C on.- She made herself out to be going above and beyond for "contacting Outdoorsy on my behalf" when we first had to switch Laverne for Shirley, as though I was causing the need for coordination.
- She kept saying the fan was functioning, which was super frustrating to me. It was not, in the most important way, which is why Connor apologized. Her argument was that the listing didn't specify airflow direction... give me a break. It had duct tape on it for goodness sake.
- She blamed the other discrepancies on Outdoorsy platform updates.
- She tried to justify the important things that weren't in line with "extras" she put in the van that weren't in the listing, like playing cards and toilet paper.
- When we let her know we were bringing back the van per Outdoorsy's instructions, she gave a rude response of "that's totally your prerogative." I responded by saying "Just trying to keep you informed hun. We're really trying to stay value aligned even though things didn't work out." No reply.

We had the BEST trip ever exploring the island. Van life was the perfect way to see all the island has to offer. I highly recommend booking one of Bri & Connor’s Van’s. The van had everything we needed, and also a bunch of storage for our belongings. Bri was very responsive to us when we had a few questions and was very quick to troubleshoot.

We spent a wonderful week on Big Island Hawaii in "Bertha", March 9 to 16, 2026. Everything in the camper worked perfectly and all necessary items were provided for a self contained adventure. Bri and Conner were great hosts and attentive to all our questions. We chose Hipcamp sites for our tour around the Big Island. Another plus, or minus depending on your attitude, we were there to experience the Kona Low 30 in of rain! Thanks Bri for the cards and games. If everything is perfectly as planned it's a great vacation. If there are some trials to navigate then it's an adventure!

Super cozy van that had everything we needed for our big island road trip! Bri was very responsive with us and made our first time renting a campervan very easy. I highly recommend using her if you plan on doing a similar adventure!

Bri was wonderful! She gave detailed instructions, was very responsive and Betty was everything we had hoped for. We’ve rented VWs on other islands but this trip with Betty was even better. The van is vey well equipped, drives great and is comfortable. One night we had to sleep with the doors and windows closed because of bugs but it was still cool because of the ceiling vent & fan. We planned ahead and chose campsites, and had wonderful adventures around the whole island. My husband is 6’2” and could just lay straight, so he was comfy and grateful for the custom bed. We would definitely rent this van again, true statement - real review!

Renting a van in Hawaii has been on my bucket list for some time now and I was finally able to check that off. I had such a great time beach hopping with the cutest pink van 🫶🏼

We had the best time on Big Island thanks to Big Bertha and all of Bri’s recommendations!! What a perfect way to explore the island. My only complaint is that I wish we had her longer and had more time to explore. Thanks for such a wonderful experience!

We had a fantastic time renting Shirley the van from Bri for our Big Island tour! It was comfortable, came with everything we needed, and the resources Bri shared made our trip easy and enjoyable. Highly recommend and can't wait to book again!

We stayed in Betty for 8 nights, 9 days and it was terrific.Betty had everything we needed, including clean bedding, beach towels, bathing towels, kitchen essentials, a place to store cold food and dried goods, and plenty of storage space. There was a good supply of starter stuff, like cooking oil, spices, a jug of drinkable water, and the van was already loaded with water for the sink (grey water) and outdoor shower. We payed a small fee for additional items, including camp chairs, umbrella (never used), awning (never used), jetboil (never used), and surfboard (never used).We were not able to use the JetBoil as we didn't have the fuel for it. Given we were only staying for a week or so, it didn't make sense to buy fuel and have to throw it away. It would have been nice to have been given a small canister of fuel specifically of the jetboil. The cooking stove did come with fuel, which was very helpful. The awning seemed simple enough to use, but we didn't use it mainly because we were off exploring and not sitting put for extended periods of time, and the extreme winds on the island. We didn't use the surfboard either as the beaches as less ideal of surfing around the island. We did use the camp chairs, which were great.

We felt so cosy in our temporary home, everything was fully as expected and the location… hey! Big Island is paradise!!! Don‘t miss the chance to go with one of the sun + salt campervans, an amazing way to explore the island!
