This is a formal refund request.
Our experience was terrible. Host didnt first answer. Pick up was ok, all though car was dirty. Then we went to our campsite and set up the tent. Tent was wet, sandy and broken. Entrance zipper was totally broken, so we couldnt close the tent. Wind coming into the tent all night, impossible to sleep. We were lucky not to have rain that night. Imagine that, water coming in to the tent.
Also lots of equipment missing: knifes, cutting board, frying pan for example. That was the only night we used the tent. We returned the car early because of this, saturday 11/01 around noon.
We agreed partial refund with the owner, but as you can see from the messages, no reply from the owner.
We request full refund for this horrible experience. We have videos about the car and tent.

Nice way to see the island for sure, I definitely think the jeep is due for a renovation. The back of the jeep is not secure and easy for anyone to break into it, so definitely wouldn’t recommend packing valuables. Listings on the camping supplies weren’t all there which definitely made it harder to camp.

We had a great time driving and camping around the island in the jeep. The car is amazing. James was very helpful, friendly and easy going. Take note that the tent is very small and is best for people 5'8 under. I am 5'8 and I just fit, my boyfriend is 6'3 and didnt fit, its very small.
Some camping essentials that we thought were missing: foam mattress/some sort of mat, head lamp/a light, rope (to be able to hang up the tarp if raining).

I would absolutely recommend this vehicle for a fun experience in Kauai. The 4x4 and big tires came in clutch when a big storm pass by Kauai. The only concern was the tarp that is located in the back of vehicle, it can be unzipped and there’s two small holes on each side of the zippers. I personally didn’t have any valuables to be worried about except my clothes. For the majority of my stay I felt pretty safe on the island. The car almost makes you feel like a local too. Also the radio and the usb charger weren’t working but we managed and James does a great job at replying back in time. Overall we did have a fun experience renting out this Jeep and the amenities include this.

James was flexible with the rental pickup and drop off time but was unavailable to help when things were missing from the car or to make adjustments to the booking. Gas levels were not where he said they would be nor was all the equipment we were expecting. However, this meant it was a low stress rental as James seems like a pretty hands off guy. The car performed well and was up to the tasks it was built for.

The jeep was fun however the doors do not lock so we didn’t feel very safe leaving the vehicle unattended. The check engine light was on and the left rear turn signal didn’t work. It was tough getting the jeep up to the 50 mph speed limit on some roads. A tent pole was broken so we had to buy duck tape to fix it. Overall our experience was ok but knowing what we know now we probably wouldn’t have rented this jeep.

The Jeep is as the pictures and the James’s description. It is perfect to explore the island (quite damp when it’s raining).
The camping gears are perfect for summer trip. We had our journey during winter and we experienced the magical local weather, the tent wasn’t weatherproof enough to keep us dry during the rainy & windy nights.
James was always answering and helping when needed. He has been the best host we could have, great talk and very generous. He has also been very accommodating for our departure, couldn’t thanks him enough.
We recommend (but instruct yourself on the local conditions before going for a full week of camping)
