Caveat Emptor - Buyer beware or you will have the worst experience ever.We rented this RV for the weekend of our son's college graduation. The plan had been to pick up the RV on the way to Penn State University and then park the RV at our son's house in his driveway. This would allow us to be close for the weekend of festivities and celebrations since it was also Mother's Day.
Leading up to our pick up, the day after the deadline to cancel the reservation without penalty, the owner of the RV contacted me to inform me that the in dash radio unit does not work. OK, fine, I figured that would be a minor inconvenience that could be overcome by listening through my phone as I drive. I was wrong. At first this plan to listen on my phone worked, but soon my phone battery was nearly empty and I was unable to plug in to charge my phone.Next, after arriving and parking the RV it was time to set up. I turned on the propane, turned on the water heater and pump. When I turned on the roof mounted HVAC to warm the RV, since it was projected to be 30 degrees overnight, I learned the heat does not work. The unit was blowing cold air. Unlike most RV's this one does not operate off a central HVAC system with a thermostat. Immediately i contacted the owner to let him know there was a problem with the heat and he tried to assist. Apparently, his solution was to use the 6"x9" space heater he had stowed in one of the compartments. It might seem premeditated that there would be a space heater. Almost as if the owner was aware of the heat problem and mitigated it by packing the space heater. The space heater presents several challenges, first there is no AC receptacles for the space heater to be plugged in near the sleeping quarter. Also, space heaters are dangerous in close quarters. And it would require continuous running of the generator to power the space heater had I been somewhere remote and unable to plug in.After a few back and forth calls to try and resolve the heat situation, Joseph, the owner of the RV, told me that I would have to call roadside assistance so they can come and fix the heat. At this point it was 9;30 pm. After a few calls with roadside assistance I learned that I would be responsible for any charges incurred to repair the heat since the vehicle is drivable. During the call with roadside assistance, the first step is to troubleshoot the problem while on the phone. The first step was to confirm the propane is on to create heat. So, they had me attempt to turn on the stove top burner to see if there is a flame when I turn on the burner. At this point, I uncovered the stovetop to see a mess of food waste, grease and an unsanitary cooktop which was never cleaned prior to my rental. Opening the microwave revealed a similar mess of baked on food waste that has never been cleaned. While I saw this mess for the first time, I was on the phone with roadside assistance. I told them I no longer needed roadside assistance because I would be staying in a hotel. At this point I contacted Joseph again to let him know of the filth he failed to clean prior to our departure. I sent him videos and photos to show him the mess.At this point, I went to the bathroom for the first time to be greeted by a mess of human waste and pubic hair littering the toilet seat and rim of the lavatory. In the bathroom cabinet I found crumpled up and discarded used tissue???? Not too sure since I would not attempt to touch it to throw it in the garbage.Immediately adjacent to the window frame to the left of the cooktop, I failed to mention above, there was a line of cobwebs that seem to have been there for some time. Now would be a good time to mention the sub floor by the refrigerator is completely rotted and mushy when one steps on it.Since we didn't unpack our belongings, we locked up the RV and found a hotel 7 miles away. It only cost $800 per night for the room.In my many conversations with Joseph he made clear to me that I would be made whole with a full refund for the RV rental. He change the reservation so we could return it the very next day. He told me he didn't expect me to return it with a full tank of gas. And he told me he that once he completes the return process with Outdoorsy, I can contact Outdoorsy for a full refund. Sadly, after speaking with Outdoorsy, it appears that Joseph misled me since he is the one who is to provide the refund, not Outdoorsy. Now, at the time of this writing, I am engaged with Outdoorsy in an attempt to recover the amount I paid for the rental. Now, to be fully transparent, let me say. I should have canceled when Joseph notified me about the radio, but I didn't I reckoned I could manage this inconvenience. You might wonder why when I arrived to pick up the RV I didn't decline to take it. To this let me say, it was gradation weekend at Penn State University and without the RV we would not have had a place to stay. You might also wonder why I didn't notice the filth of the RV when we did a pre-departure checkout. This is an excellent question. The reason is because we were in a hurry to get on the road. I did notice the cosmetic issues, the scuffs, scratched walls and moldings, the ripped and frayed cushions and seats, the mushy floor and other immediately noticeable problems I was willing to overlook for the sake of expediency and desperation. It wasn't until later when we were setting up that I noticed the RV was filthy and uninhabitable unless one is willing to sleep, live bathe and shower in among others filth. Finally, when I met Joseph to return the RV, he acknowledged the terrible condition of the RV and seemed genuinely apologetic. He again assured me that I would get a full refund but that I had to do it through Outdoorsy. He lamented that he was concerned with getting a bad rating from me since that would hurt his rental business. I told him that I had no intention of leaving a bad review since all I wanted was to be made whole, that is to get a full refund. Since, i have been misled by Joseph about the refund process, and the RV condition, I feel compelled to warn others so they don't suffer the same bad experience as my family suffered with this RV rental experience.Note - I would have posted more visuals of the filth but I am unable to post videos.
