About Chebon & Jalinn's RV rentals

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to check out our camper! We have owned it for about a year and we are excited to share it with other families wanting to experience camping or road tripping together. My name is Chebon and my wife is Jalinn. We have two kids, a 6 yr old boy and a newborn baby girl. We are from Lawrence, KS but we lived in Denver for a few years and just moved back to Lawrence a year ago. We love to do all things outdoors. Camping, hiking, kayaking, fishing and everything else. We love the mountains and the beach. Our favorite kind of trip is a road trip with multiple destinations so we can see and experience a variety of things along the way! We have been to many states and would love to help you plan your trip and give suggestions if you want them! :)

Not what we signed up for! Before I begin let me start by stating that we (my wife and I) understood this was not a brand new camper and there may be some cosmetic issues or minor quirks...well we were wrong, the issues go far beyond minor. When we arrived the camper was clean and stocked with necessities (this was about the only positive) the first issue was addressed during the test drive. The drivers side belt buckle is broken, the owner said that the previous renter had broken the buckle, the buckle still latches but the vehicle doesn't register that the seat belt is buckled, so for about 10 minutes after you turn the key on and start driving you have to listen to the "fasten your seat belt chime" (ding ding ding... ding ding ding) every 30 seconds or so. This was obviously annoying but not a show stopper and seeing as how we were leaving on our vacation that day what else could we do? The owner said the previous renter broke it and they did not have time to fix it, so we decided to deal with it and start the amazing vacation we had planned. Our first stop was New Mexico, leaving from Kansas City it was going to be about a 12 hour drive and we had planned on making it a day and a half trip seeing as how we were starting late in the afternoon and we had three small children (ages 4, 5.5 and 7). About 2 hours into the trip the radio stopped working, the dash said "miss-wiring check wiring then reset" and just like that we had no radio. Ok so no radio, this is going to be fun, luckily we had a little speaker we were able to use with our phone so we not completely without music but of course not ideal. We remembered the owners said they had an inverter hooked up so we could let the kids watch TV while driving, sweet! When we tried to put a movie on for the kids the TV would not recognize the DVD player, so now we had no music or entertainment. We decided that wasn't going to slow us down and we continued on.... then came the AC. The AC only works when you are going below 50 mph or you are coasting down hill!!! UM... it was 90 something degrees out in New Mexico, and we had three small children! when we talked to the owner he said it was the way the vehicle worked and it automatically cuts off when you are heavy on the gas... uh what he must have meant to say was any time you press the gas over 50 mph. Its not like I had a choice, this thing was incredibly slow and could barley get out of its own way. lets just say this RV struggled to get over the foothills of western Kansas. If your grandparents had to drive this to school "uphill, both ways" they never would have graduated. Anyway, moving down the list of issues, as we continued our trip (contemplating traveling in our underwear) we made it about an hour outside of Albuquerque New Mexico, and then the RV broke down! Yes, you read that right, it broke down., a total loss of power and we had to coast to the side of the highway. Of course I called the owner and told him what happened, and he told me that it had never happened before and told me he was going to contact his mechanic to try and diagnose the problem. When he called back I did what he asked, checked the gas cap, check the battery cables etc. well it fired back up and we were off again (ding ding ding, ding ding ding) and about 20 miles down the road it dies again, and then again, and then again. For a total of 4 times, all four times in 100 plus degree weather with three kids and no AC! Finally we were able to get it to a repair shop, We then had to rent another vehicle while this one was in the shop. we completely unloaded the camper into a Dodge Durango with no cooler for our refrigerated items, but it had AC and a radio! oh and we had to rent the vehicle unload the RV and load the Durango all within an hour before the repair facility closed. At this point we were extremely frustrated, again this is not what we signed up for! I called the owner and told him this that I wanted a refund, this RV was not as advertised. We had rented the RV for 16 days so we could visit family in New Mexico and California before we move to Guam for 3 years, and so far we had only gone 2 days and went through all of this. According to Outdoorsey policy it is the renters responsibility to get the RV back to the owner, which is understandable so what I proposed to the owner was to leave the RV at the repair shop while we continued our vacation in the Durango to California and then pick it up on our way back to Kansas City. I did not feel comfortable driving this RV further in the heat of the southwest without AC and zero entertainment. I mean really at this point there was no benefit to driving the RV besides the fact that it had a toilet for the kids. Well the owner had only agreed to give us a refund for the days it was inoperable. Also according to Outdoorsey policy all refunds must be agreed upon with the owner, so basically we were at there mercy. like I said earlier we did not feel comfortable driving this anymore so we shelled out another 800 bucks and continued our vacation in the Durango. then the last two days of our trip we drove the RV back to Kansas City. when we returned the RV the owners decided they were going to be generous and refund us for 3 days of the rental even though the RV was only in the repair shop for 2 days. they did not take into account the fact that our food had spoiled because we no longer had a refrigerator, the fact that we rented another vehicle for 12 days and everything we went through in the first 2 days. All in all we used the RV for 4 days... and all 4 were miserable. If you have made it this far into the review and are still reading what I have to say, let me leave you with this: Keep searching!
