Rules and policies
The Canned Ham is designed for use on paved roads. It should only be hauled on gravel or dirt roads for short distances, as may be the case in some state parks or other campsites. Off road, on dirt or gravel, drive no more than 15 to 20 mph, to prevent damage to the undercarriage of the camper.
On grass, if required for a short distance, 5 mph.
Recommended highway speed is 55 mph! (I know! That is slow.) Sixty mph is reasonable in cool weather. Camper tires are smaller, and heat up faster. For that reason, speeding is especially dangerous during hot weather. Note: recommended tire pressure is 50 psi. Do not over-inflate as this could cause a blow-out.
Always take into account, while traveling, temperature and other weather conditions—such as rain or icy roads. The number one cause of accidents when towing a camper is a camper tire blow-out.
Other factors which can affect handling include “planing” on flooded roads, and skidding due to black ice. Gusting winds can also affect handling. If it starts to hail, find the best shelter you can—an underpass, or gas station roof are ideal, but if nothing else is handy, drive under a tree. Hail can be as large as baseball, or even grapefruit sized, and deadly, as well as damaging to your car and the camper.
All campers have roadside assistance, but this camper comes equipped with a new spare tire, in case you are nowhere near roadside assistance. All RV tires are checked prior to rental for pressure and safety, at Discount Tires.

But I fell in love with the small retro-campers, and after many years tent camping, was happy to move into a more comfortable camper, off the ground & secure from the elements. I got so enthusiastic about retro campers that I thought it would be fun to invest in a few, and start a small business, renting them out. So now, I have three models to chose from; each will sleep two people comfortably. I have a 15 foot 2015 Shasta-style retro-canned ham camper and a ten foot, small but roomy 'Lil Loafer, built in 62 by Aristocrat, and upgraded with new air conditioning, and a new mattress--a couch which opens up into a full-size bed. All aluminum, I guess it is a tiny canned ham, but looks to me more like a large bread box! The T@G is also 10 feet, but configured very differently than the 'Lil Loafer. I just have enjoyed upgrading the fun retro campers, especially the 'Lil Loafer, keeping the mid-century charm. It would have made better business sense, perhaps, to stick with one model, but I bought these, in part because they were available, and mostly because each has different features which appeal to me personally. I get to take any of them out for a week-end, and all have their own charm. I haven't yet decided which I like best!
