If you've never experienced a camping trip in a Westy, you haven't really lived! Sure, you can get one of those yuppy things with all the modern amenities and giant engines, but what fun is that? Westies have a cult following due to their originality and quirkiness, and if this is your first time using one, you'll understand why.
Russell comes fully equipped with the original camping features from the Westfalia shop in Germany in 1984. Because he is a Wolfsburg edition, the seats are extra thick for comfy road trips. The two burner stove runs on propane. The tiny fridge works as a cooler. Just put a block of ice in it and load it with your favorite beverages. If you want on-board electricity, you can plug Russell into an RV hookup. To utilize running water from the faucet, you can access an RV water hookup or you can fill the on-board water tank. The rear seat folds and connects to a mattress in the hatch to make one of two beds. The Westfalia pop-top adds another sleeping quarter for the kids or guests. There is also plenty of cabinet space, privacy curtains, and two tables to play cards and eat inside.
Russell has a 4 speed manual transmission. Know that he is not a race car. He is meant to get to your destination gingerly. You'll need to downshift into 3rd when pulling some hills along the journey (35mph max on those larger longer hills), but that's part of the Westy experience! *Note: if you have little to no experience driving a manual transmission, please do not book.
