1990 Volkswagen Westfalia
Previously owned and loved by the founders of "Lost Winds" Brewery, this well traveled 1990 Westfalia Camper has a new lease on life, with a newly rebuilt engine and plenty of wind in her sails. All the onboard systems have also been renewed, including a new house battery setup, a modern bluetooth enabled stereo, and a new fresh water plumbing & pump for the sink. The automatic transmission is fun and easy to drive, and the van sits on oversize all terrain wheels for better overall handling. There's a roof rack up top for your surfboards (or ours), and there's nothing more fun for the kids (or the kid in you) then spending a night in the pop top bed.Looking for something a little different? We have a fleet of classic VW vans for rent which you can check out here:https://www.outdoorsy.com/pro/170879Qué incluyeEach vintage VW Westfalia rental comes equipped with a valid "California Explorer" State Parks Pass ($195 value) which will get you free parking at all beaches operated by the California State Parks system as well as free day use entry into the parks themselves. Please note the pass is not valid for city operated beach parking or overnight camping, regardless of location.Want to rent surfboards or more camping gear? We've got you covered. Just check of the list of what you want (fees apply) and we'll handle the rest.Otros detalles importantesThis vehicle has a 3 speed automatic transmission. Please keep in mind that this is a vintage rig, max highway speed is 65 mph, and even with all the upgrades and a perfectly tuned stock engine, the van is quite slow up hills (45-50 mph) and climbing steep grades should be avoided whenever possible. Please note that travel on or over the "grapevine" is strictly forbidden (the pass on the 5 freeway between LA and Bakersfield), so if you're traveling the coast, the 101 should be your route of choice. At its heart, a Westfalia is a compact, easy to drive, vehicle. However, it's important to note that in a "cab over" vehicle, the driver is positioned on top of, or "over" the wheels, vs. a standard passenger car where the front wheels are 2-3 feet in front of you. The difference completely changes how the vehicle handles, especially in turns, which takes some getting used to. The manual shift and the automatic versions are both a joy to drive, but please keep in mind that they are not performance vehicles - they are vintage beach cruisers and must be treated with love & care.No smoking at all (of any kind) inside the van, and pets are also not allowed.

My wife Amanda and I are the owners / founders of a small women's surf & swimwear brand called SEEA. Since moving to Southern California in 2010, we've been surfing at San Onofre and exploring the Pacific coast, from Baja up to Big Sur. We got our first VW in 2014, the same year our daughter was born. Since then, restoring VW's has been my main passion and hobby. Westfalia campers are truly unique vehicles, and there's simply nothing I like better than cruising the coast with my family in a well-tuned vintage van. As a natural extension of our own surf & travel adventures, the decision to share that stoke with others is a joyous one - so we're excited to introduce SAN-O VAN as a fun, alternative platform for your surf centric coast explorations.

We had a wonderful time camping in this van! It was perfect for a family of 3. Van was in great condition & the process was easy and smooth in pick up & drop off. We will book again!

We rented the van to go camping at Doheny State Beach and go surfing 🌊. Brian was great to rent from, really helpful and full of local knowledge. We also rented a surfboard for him as well. The van ran great with no problems. We will definitely rent from him again.

My partner and I planned a Christmas staycation down at San Elijo in San Diego so we could be closer to family and get some waves over the Christmas break. We caught sunny weather and a little swell. The nights were chilly and a little damp, so it was great to have the cozy shelter of the Lost Winds van with its camper top and propane stovetop for heating water, etc. for our tea and coffee. I’m tall, and at 6’1” it can be challenging to find a car camping situation that allows me to stretch out. I slept up in the ‘crows nest’ and was happy as a clam with my mummy bag and had plenty of room. The van’s auxiliary battery provided plenty of juice for charging our appliances, and the Bluetooth speaker was great for hooking up playlists from Spotify when our friends came around the campsite. This little home on wheels got a lot of complements at the campsite. Brian the owner made the check in / out process super smooth and informative, and he took the time to walk us through the amenities and such. I was grinning ear to ear the entire drive. Can’t wait to take out another one of the Sano Van rigs. Stoked!!
