Only 1 star because 0 wasn't an option. This was such a terrible experience, where to even begin. I will say booking was easy, thanks mostly to Outdoorsy of course, so you can at least rest assured that the site is legit. First, he was 2 hours late on delivery. Drop off was scheduled for 3pm (in accordance to the times outlined on the advertisement as check in time) and at first he mentioned he was going to be 30-45 minutes late due to "picking up last minute things" to stock the camper. I thought OK no problem. Then when that time came around he now pushed his ETA back by another 45 minutes. I thought traffic maybe because it was a busy event we were booked at. Again, happy to extend grace. He ended up showing up nearly 2 hours later around 5pm. At this point we are with a group and ready to begin festivities we had planned for that evening for our trip and had to wait for him to deliver the camper so we are already missing out on part of our vacation we worked hard to save up for and plan all year. He finally arrives and sets up. At this point I am just thankful he made it and we can get some AC going since it was over 90 degrees outside all week. We provided our own generator and he failed to tell us any specifications as far as female/male plugs to the camper and turns out he didn't have the right one. Then he had the audacity to suggest "well you can just go to the store and buy one." Which 1. Why do we have to spend even more money on something that should have been mentioned/provided. and 2. Had he been on time at 3pm, we could have made the trip into the closest hardware store (20 minutes from camp site) but at 5pm everything was now closed. Very grateful for a neighbor that happened to have the right hook up to loan us, otherwise it would have been a miserable night sleeping in a sauna of a camper that smelled like mildew. Next, as we are doing to walk through on how the camper operates, there were multiple damages to the camper, and significant ones that he failed to mention upon booking. The fridge door was broken and hard to get open and held together by duck tape. His statement "sorry I have 7 kids and they use this camper" THEN FIX IT OR ADVERTISE THE CONDITIONS. Don't sell us with pristine pictures or fail to mention damages to the customer before booking. What else.. The railing on the outside steps was held together by duck tape. The storage compartments outside were broken. The kitchen table was completely lopsided and missing nuts and bolts that held it together so it was unstable, could not use it at all. There were nicks and scratches in the walls. Candy wrappers underneath the mattress. Dirty silverware. The place smelled like mildew. The TVs were gone (no biggie not there to watch tv but still). There were no linens provided, even though he advertised as an amenity provided. There was nothing to wash dishes with and several other items that were advertised as provided for were not. It honestly felt like he just got done camping with his 7 kids and just did a quick sweep of the camper and then drove it to us. No prep, no professional set up, etc.. The absolute cherry on top of this was when I asked about the tanks. The black tank sensor was "broken" and reads 2/3 full always according to him. And the fresh water tank was reading empty so I asked if that sensor was broken as well. He says "there is no fresh water in the tank". That sent me into orbit. We specifically rented this for 1. AC and a bed and 2. to be able to shower after a long day of being in the sun and racing. Luckily, we were able to fill it from a vendor near by but again EXTRA EXPENSES we shouldn't have had to pay for when we already spent close to $1500 for the booking. Then he messages me after he left and asked me to check my email to sign some sort of document and upload pictures "on behalf of the host". Some sort of insurance policy with Outdoorsy that would cover damages it sounded like. He continued to harass us via text and email about needing this done ASAP. None of which I had seen until the next morning because 1. I am on vacation and busy and 2. I had no service. When I finally looked at the email while we were in town buying the part of the generator, it was just a PDF form that I need to somehow print out, sign, scan, and return to him.. while camping in the middle of a corn field. Literally. This was clearly something that he was required to do at the time of key exchange, but he failed to do so and in return that insurance coverage was voided since it was time sensitive (at least from what I could try to understand in the legal jargon in the document). What struck me as suspicious is when he asked us to do this he said "be sure to include the duck tape on the fridge and railing" but completely failed to mention the multiple other things that were damaged at delivery. Almost like he was planning on using this as a way to claim damages and get them fixed. I don't know I could be over thinking it but the way this entire thing panned out I have my right to be cautious. We ended up needing to leave a day early (about 14 hours prior to scheduled pick up at 10am) due to weather issues and illnesses from the smoke (Cananda fire) and notified him. We left the camper in the condition that was required, clean, awning retracted, and no damages. At that point he threatened us with filing a police report and suing for damages (none of which were caused by us). Just an overall unprofessional experience for the price we paid. Had I have known about all the damages, lack of amenities provided that were supposed to be, and the customer/host experience.. I would have canceled this and booked with someone else. This was more worth $500 for 5 nights not $1500. Save your money and sanity or take it somewhere else.
