This is the cutest vehicle ever and sweet owners. They thought of everything I could need from actually useful knives to cold fridge and Bluetooth capable music player. This is in no way a van one could camp in, it’s a camper through and through.

We absolutely loved this campervan — it was perfect for the two of us! As two smaller women, we fit comfortably with all our belongings and had no trouble sleeping side by side (just make sure you like who you're sleeping next to — it’s cozy!).

Absolutely the most well equipped rental and the kindest, most flexible owners on any platform anywhere.

We had such a great time with Tanuki over the long weekend! My friend and I weren’t sure at first if we’d have enough space because it looks tiny, but we were so surprised by how roomy and comfy it actually is. It comes with everything you need, and you can tell Jennifer and Ryan have really thought of all the little details.

Q.Who (or what) is Tanuki?
A.
Tanuki is our quirky little 2007 Daihatsu Hijet—a Japanese micro van that’s been fully converted into a cozy camper. It’s compact, fuel-efficient, and turns heads wherever it goes. Named after the cheeky raccoon-dog of Japanese folklore, Tanuki is all about fun, freedom, and fitting into tiny campsites.
Q.Where do I pick up and drop off Tanuki?
A.
Pickups and drop-offs happen at our place in Victoria, BC—it’s super easy to get to. If you’re flying or taking the ferry, we can deliver Tanuki to the airport, ferry terminal, or almost anywhere else nearby. Drop off anywhere is also available. Just let us know what works for you!
Q.Is Tanuki easy to drive?
A.
Yes! Tanuki is right-hand drive, but it’s automatic and super easy to get used to—most renters say it takes about 10 minutes to feel totally comfortable. It’s small and nimble, great for twisty island roads, ferry decks, and tight campsites.
Q.Do I need a special licence?
A.
Nope. Just a regular Class 5 (or equivalent) licence is all you need or follow instructions on outdoorsy to become a verified driver and that is all you need.
