Whip up some American lamb recipes and win a prize

The RV comes to a stop, the door opens, and a family spills out onto the campsite. Up goes the awning, out come the chairs. Firewood is gathered and before we know it, a roaring fire beckons for dinner to be cooked.

The perfect outdoor adventure always centers around a firepit and a perfectly charred, smokey meal. This summer, make American Lamb part of your outdoor adventures, and you could win a $2,000 credit to Outdoorsy to plan your next big outdoor getaway (see below for details).

But before we get into that, let’s talk about how to make the perfect campfire lamb recipes — which will come in handy if you want to win!

Tips to grill the perfect lamb dinner

Whether you’re a lamb pro or a newbie, grilling lamb is the perfect way to enjoy it in all its forms. From burgers to skewers, the lamb recipes are endless!

And, cooking American Lamb over fire is easy to do. You don’t even need a fancy grill or smoker!

Choose your setup

Cooking over a live fire doesn’t require much. Fire pits, campfires, and homemade fire rings all work great — just be sure to have a stable surface for your meat or pan. And, always be mindful of the size of your flames.

Fuel selection

When choosing your fuel source, you want to consider heat and flavor. Woods like hardwoods and fruitwoods easily break down into coals and provide an exceptional smoky flavor that won’t overpower your lamb. Lump charcoal is always a great backup too!

Watch your temperatures

When cooking over an open flame it’s important to time your cooking – too early and the meat will burn, too late and it won’t cook. The best time to place your meat over the heat source is when the wood is transitioning from black to gray and turning into charcoal.

Another easy tip to remember is this: hold your hand 4 inches from the fire. If you can hold it there for more than 4 seconds you need more heat, if you can’t hold it for more than 1-2 seconds it’s too hot.

Keep it simple

Keep a close eye on your meat as it cooks, and be sure to constantly monitor the health of your fire. When cooking over an open flame sometimes it’s best to keep things simple with a simple seasoning and a cast iron pan – this helps create a delicious, rich crust on your lamb and evenly distributes the heat.

Ingredients

  • 4 American Lamb Loin Chops
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 1/4 cup of white wine
  • 1 Garlic bud (minced)
  • 1 Lemon (halved)
  • Black Pepper
  • Sea Salt
  • Olive Oil
  • Parsley (chopped)

Directions

1. Build a fire & preheat your skillet

Start campfire until it reaches medium-high heat. Preheat cast-iron skillet over fire 2-3 minutes before cooking in it.

2. Season your lamb & place on the skillet

When lamb chops are at room temperature, lather with olive oil and season with sea salt and black pepper. Add a little bit of olive oil to the cast iron, and place lamb in cast iron for 4 mins on the first side.

3. Flip & cook the other side

When ready, flip lamb chops on the other side for another 4 minutes.

4. Butter the lamb

While cooking, add garlic & white wine to the skillet. Place butter on top of each lamb chop and let melt into the sauce below.

5. Top with parsley & serve

Once done cooking, pull cast iron off the fire, sprinkle chopped parsley, and serve immediately.

Tip: Pour the butter sauce on top of lamb for more flavor!
