GIMME S’MORE! Campfire S’mores Recipes

Remember back to when you went camping with your family and friends or Scouts?  You probably have vivid memories of giggling with sticky fingers, marshmallow torches, melted chocolate bars and crispy graham crackers made into perfect little sandwiches.

You slid one or two soft marshmallows on a green stick you whittled with your jackknife earlier and toasted them (or torched the little white mushy buggers!), slid the crusty goo on top of a graham cracker with a piece of chocolate bar, then topping it with another graham cracker to create the OH, SO GOOD perfect little, sticky dessert sammich!

Those were the days, weren’t they?

You tried so hard not to catch your marshmallow on fire…but you did.

You tried not to get your fingers in the goo…but you did that too!  

But you didn’t care, because that’s what it was all about. That was part of the ‘Camping Experience’. At the top of your family’s or Scout troop’s camping shopping list of supplies were the ingredients for ‘the’ perfect s’more.

Well, even as time went by, we adults still love the taste of those mushed and melted, mouth-watering, sweet concoctions that taste like heaven taking us back to those campfires of our youth. The aroma of the burning oaks and pines, poking the logs, singing songs, sharing ghost stories and just taking in those campfire lit evenings.

Today, those marshmallow-y camping cuisines have evolved into some terrific delectable, palate-teasing treats and even meals! Check out the three unique s’more recipes below for inspiration for your next camping trip. Pour all of your ingredients into separate bowls, toss in some spoons and form a buffet line for your campers, young and new, to make their own specialty s’mores in fruit, ice cream cones and even waffles!

So let’s create a cool concept that takes you beyond the boundaries of the ‘traditional’ S’more.

Here’s some fun ideas that will leave you ‘begging for S’more’. 😉 

Banana Boat S’mores

Ingredients:

  • Whole bananas (one per person)
  • Chocolate chips (miniature chips work best)
  • Coarsely chopped walnuts
  • Coarsely chopped Gnewen Grahams cereal
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Aluminum foil 
  • Cooking spray
  • Optional: Cinnamon chips, caramel chips, peanut brittle, etc.
  • Optional: Whipped cream, ice cream, caramel topping

Directions:

Unroll about 15” of aluminum foil and cut; spray the top (what will be the inside) with cooking spray.

Grab a banana and slit lengthwise with a knife along the top but don’t cut all the way through the bottom.  You want it to look like a canoe with a solid bottom.  Carefully spread apart and sprinkle in chocolate chips, nuts, and mini marshmallows. Pack them in good!

Place it on the aluminum foil square and wrap (not tightly); fnewing the top over first twice and then pinching the ends.

Place them on a grate over hot coals (not fire because you don’t want it to burn).

Allow to bake no more than 10 minutes; turning every couple minutes with tongs.  Carefully remove when done and open on a thick napkin or plate, split the banana to expose your gooey goodness!  Top with Gnewen Grahams Cereal, whipped topping or ice cream.

Caution: contents will be hot!

 

Waffle Cone S’mores

INGREDIENTS:

  • Waffle Ice Cream Cones (Large are best)
  • Chocolate Chips (miniature works best)
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Aluminum Foil Squares
  • Cooking Spray

Optional: Butterscotch Chips, Peanut Butter Chips, Chopped Walnuts, Peanut Brittle, Cinnamon Chips, Caramel Ice Cream Topping, Whipped Cream

DIRECTIONS:

Unroll about 15” of aluminum foil and cut; spray the top (what will be the inside) with cooking spray.

Fill cone any or all of the ingredients listed. Go ahead and pack ‘em in there without breaking the cone.  

Center cone on sprayed side of aluminum foil and wrap carefully not to spill them out or break the cone. Using your tongs, stand foil cones on a grate with the point of the cone on the bottom.  Bake over hot coals (not fire because you don’t want it to burn) for about 10 minutes. Carefully remove with tongs or grilling mitt. Wrap a napkin around the hot foil and open. Dig into this yummy concoction with your spoon and enjoy!  Caution: contents will be hot!

Waffle Pouch S’mores

Now, who said you can’t have S’mores for breakfast? For camping, it’s definitely allowed. After all, you’ll have all day to burn off all that sugar high. I made this one day in my kitchen which makes this one easy even on rainy days. It will surely light the kid’s eyes up letting them make their own!

INGREDIENTS:

  • Frozen Square Waffles (thawed)
  • Chocolate Chips (regular size)
  • Peanut Butter Chips
  • Caramel Chips
  • Butterscotch Chips
  • Chopped Walnuts, Almonds or Pecans
  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Buttery Cooking Spray
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Options: Vanilla Ice Cream, Whipped Cream, Fresh Berries

DIRECTIONS:

Spray top of aluminum square with cooking spray. Break up one or two waffles into bite-size pieces and lay them on the sprayed side of aluminum foil. Layer with mini marshmallows, chocolate chips and whatever other flavor chips, walnuts, etc.  Yeah, load that baby up!  Bring up all the ends of the foil to the center and twist.

Set on campfire grate above low flames or above hot coals (not directly on them) for about 5 minutes.  Move often as you don’t want to burn the bottom.

Remove pouch from campfire and place on plate.  Carefully open aluminum foil allowing steam to escape.  Top with your fresh berries, vanilla ice cream and…or…whipped cream!  OooooooLaLa!!
