NASCAR changes logo for the first time since 1976

Big announcement for NASCAR fans today. The NASCAR t-shirts, mugs, posters, and little toy RVs you’ve been collecting over the years just increased in value as NASCAR announced that the look of their new brand is going live on Jan 1, 2017. At the same time, the official title of the NASCAR Cup is going to be: Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. As part of the announcement, NASCAR shared a great look back at the logos that led up to this one. What a cool trip through time!

Love this one. Imagine what NASCAR racing looked like back then. Do you think people rented the earliest version of RVs to attend the races? (By the way, if you’re curious to see what early RVs looked like, look no further than this story on Outdoorsy called “A Brief History of the First Recreational Vehicles.”)

This design takes elements of the original, but adds more color into the mix. It kinda feels like eating at a Johnny Rockets (not that it’s a bad thing!)

This very toned down design last for over a decade. It’s my lease favorite of the bunch. It’s almost like the wings that a pilot gives little kids when they go flying.

Huge improvement! WOW. Whoever did this redesign really stepped the whole thing up a notch. Now we’re seeing the NASCAR we all begin to recognize. And check out how long this was the logo of the brand! Pretty incredible, actually.

Here it is. The first redesign since 1976. Starting in January, there will no longer be color between the letters, but you will still have the familiar NASCAR momentum. For the Cup Series, that looks a little like…

What do you think of this change? Which year was your favorite logo? Do you go to NASCAR events, and when you do, do you rent an RV to do it? Let us know in the comments!
