Owner of the week: Josh Curtis

“I grew up camping and wanted to share my passion for the outdoors with my family,” Outdoorsy owner Josh Curtis tells us. “Some of my fondest memories growing up were camping, and I wanted my kids to be able to experience the same.”

Another thing that Josh has loved since childhood? Making money. “I have been an entrepreneur ever since I was a kid,” he says. “Always working hard and finding ways to have nice things. I did some research and found out we could rent out our RV to help offset costs—but it did way more than that!

“Within days of posting online, we began to get rental requests,” Josh recalls. “Just on Outdoorsy alone, we have done about $200,000 in revenue since August of 2017. I do have to give glory to God for blessing our business and its success.”

Of course, Josh did work hard for that success. He also gives some credit to Outdoorsy. “Outdoorsy has an outstanding rental platform that has helped and enabled us to grow from one camper to a fleet of RVs,” he explains. “They have excellent customer service and continue to innovate to drive more and more customers to us.”

That isn’t all Outdoorsy has done for Josh; he’s also found new friends through the platform. “I have had the opportunity of meeting fellow Outdoorsy owners, and have helped mentor new owners as well,” he tells us. “I have helped guest renters purchase RVs and get in the RV rental business as well. One of my favorite owners I have met on the platform is TJ Keplinger. We have RV rental businesses close to one another and have helped each other out on quite a few occasions, which has been awesome!”

Clearly, Josh has had an amazing time running his business. “Starting an RV business can be very rewarding if you are hard-working, passionate, and enjoy working with customers,” he shares. “Many people told me I was crazy for renting out my camper and that guests would tear it up. It has been almost the opposite, as many have treated them like it was their own. I started with a $4,500 camper, and that small investment has grown to six campers, four of which are paid off!”
