Marycarol Skaggs and her husband Chris have always dreamed of owning an RV.
“We started ‘dream shopping’ for RVs when our children were little, about 20 years ago,” Skaggs tells us. “We went to RV shows and dealers and dreamed of ‘someday.’”
The family met with some obstacles along their way to that “someday,” and almost thought the freedom of RV travel wasn’t going to happen for them. “Our lives took some unexpected turns when we added to our family by adoption, and it seemed that RVing would not work out for us,” Skaggs says. “Then we learned about Outdoorsy.”
“We are familiar with the concept of private rentals as we use a similar site for renting housing during our travels, so we decided to rent an RV for the first time to test the waters. We LOVED it, and soon after we bought our first rig,” Skaggs says. “We named it Fredm— Fred the Forester.”
Fred was perfect for the family, and they assumed it would be perfect for sharing with others via the very site that inspired them to make their RV purchase. “The kitchen counter and U-shaped dinette were important features,” Skaggs says, noting a few of her favorite things about the rig. “We learned that we did not like the bunk style that sleeps 10, so the one we have sleeps 8.”
Fred was an instant success after being listed on Outdoorsy. The family was shocked at how quickly renters wanted to snap him up. “Even though we bought Fred at the end of the season and winterized it, two families expressed an interest in renting it for the Christmas break,” Skaggs says. “We didn’t feel ready, but we took the plunge and scurried to get it outfitted well, including all the forms we needed. We appreciated Outdoorsy’s ready-made forms.”
