Want a Guest House For Family This Thanksgiving? Why Not Get an RV Delivered?

Is the family coming to your house this Thanksgiving? While we imagine that brings joy and excitement to your heart, we also imagine the impending arrival of family begs some questions for you (especially as your guest list grows):

Will everyone be comfortable in your space?

Do you even have enough space?

And will you really be okay with cousin Eddie sleeping in your house?

Okay, we’re half kidding with the cousin Eddie comment, but let’s face it — every family has some members that are more lovably rambunctious than others.

That’s why we think one of the best-kept secrets in the RV rental world is that you can have an RV delivered to your driveway, your backyard, or your back forty to create a temporary guest house. Let’s explore why renting an RV for Thanksgiving can be a fun and cost-effective idea.

How Does RV Delivery Work?

Our hosts make RV rental delivery as easy as ordering a pizza pie. By applying our ‘delivery’ filter to an Outdoorsy search, you’ll find all the RVs in your area that offer this.

From there, simply choose the rig that fits your family best and our hosts will have it to you in time for Turkey Day!

A Thanksgiving RV Guest House Is Fun

By getting an RV delivered as a guest house this Thanksgiving, you’ll be providing a memory-making vehicle for all who enter. Imagine the cousins hanging in the RV playing board games and making memories while the adults enjoy some kid-free connecting in the house.

You could also use the RV kitchen to alleviate some of the pressure on your home kitchen. Many of our RVs for rent have outdoor kitchens, so you and the family can enjoy cooking in nature. And — just because the RV is parked on your driveway, backyard, or extra land — doesn’t mean you can’t create a camping experience. Campfires, marshmallow roasting, and s’more buffets are all activities that don’t have to be bound to the campground.

And who knows — by having an RV delivered as a guest house you just might inspire some of your family to reconnect with nature on an RVing trip of their own!

A Thanksgiving RV Guest House Creates Peace

Imagine how much more challenging Christmas vacation would’ve been if Clark couldn’t have kindly banished cousin Eddie from the house to his curbside RV.

We all need our space here and there — a Thanksgiving RV guest house allows you to gently create some family breathing room on an as-needed basis.

A Thanksgiving RV Guest House Is Easy To Set Up

Many owners on the Outdoorsy platform offer delivery and set up right to your home. These owners will tow or drive their rig to your place and help you get it set to run smoothly for your family.

Providing power and water to an RV is generally as simple as running an extension cord and a hose to the rig. That’ll keep the guest house rolling for the entire Thanksgiving week.

Note: Most household plug-ins don’t have enough power to run high-draw appliances like space heaters and microwaves simultaneously — avoid blowing breakers by asking your family to only run one of these appliances at a time.

The main consideration when using an RV as a guest house is wastewater. Because few homes have external sewer dumps, you’ll either have to take the RV to a dump station (images of cousin Eddie once again come to mind — don’t try his way at home 🙂 or manage the situation so you don’t have to dump.

Generally speaking, as long as folks shower in your house, your RV holding tanks should last for 3-5 days without needing to be dumped. Before you rent, ask the RV owner how long their holding tanks tend to last so you can plan accordingly.

RVs Ready To Be Your Thanksgiving Guesthouse

The RV you choose to be your Thanksgiving guest house depends on your unique situation — here are a few examples of the types of rigs that we think would work well:

  1. The spacious fifth-wheel—These types of rigs often feature bunkhouses at the back with spacious master bedrooms at the front. Fifth-wheels can also offer multiple slide-outs, allowing you to create a cavernous living area for gatherings.
  2. Luxury Airstream — Create an experience that the family will never forget by renting a space-age Airstream so they can discover why this iconic brand has stood the test of time. We even have vintage Airstreams for rent if you want to give your family a throwback experience.

  1. Lightweight travel trailers — If you want to tow the rig home yourself (or maybe even take it on a short excursion) lightweight travel trailers like these can double as a Thanksgiving guest house and an adventure vehicle that can be towed by properly equipped crossover SUVs and large sedans.
  2. Pop-up trailers — Pop-up campers offer an affordable way to create extra sleeping space for Thanksgiving guests. Some models even offer kitchenettes and rigs like this A-Frame pop-up will keep guests warm in cooler climates.

One of the quickest ways to create extra space and extra privacy for your family this Thanksgiving is by getting an RV rental delivered as a guest house. It’ll create extra space around the holiday and set the stage for some magic memory-making right in your backyard.

Those family arrivals are just around the corner — get ready by checking out our RVs and renting one before they’re all gobbled up!

Josh and his wife traveled around the country in an '88 Airstream for 4+ years of full-time RVing. They made an unexpected pitstop in Montana in 2020 and haven't left since. That's because they got hooked on the glamping resort they run by Glacier National Park. Fittingly, they keep up their RVing love by renting out vintage Airstreams and other retro RVs to travelers hitting Montana.
