One of the best things about renting out your RV is watching your business grow. The most successful owners here on Outdoorsy are always on the lookout for tricks and tactics to give them a leg up.

We asked our Outdoorsy RV Owner Community for their favorite marketing tips and compiled them into a handy list below.

#1. Run specials.

Take a hint from RV owner Toni Brightways and drum up some business by offering special deals from time to time. Last Veteran’s Day, Toni offered all veterans an 11% discount and saw a nice jump in business.

#2. Remember to ask for positive reviews.

Positive reviews are important. Renters are usually happy to leave good reviews, but they might need to be reminded that leaving reviews will help your business. Owner Sandra Bader recommends that you ask for the review in person after the rental, and follow up a few days later with an email or via text.

#3. List your RV on local online marketplaces.

Go where your renters are! They’re probably already looking for RVs on sites like Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. To share your RV, publish a photo of your RV with the word “rent” in the title. When responding to all the incoming messages, send a link to your Outdoorsy listing. Here’s a helpful guide on how to do this on Craigslist.

#4. Don’t forget the importance of physical advertising.

Start a conversation by putting up flyers and Outdoorsy stickers and magnets on your RV. One owner, JoVonna Kingkade, even got business by displaying a “For Rent” sign at the beach while cleaning out her RVs.

#5. Share your RV on Facebook.

A poll in our Facebook group revealed that 24 of the most profitable Outdoorsy owners are marketing on Facebook to generate publicity. Create a page for your RV business, join local groups, and share your photo albums on your profile.

#6. Promote your RV to family and friends.

Be sure to tell those close to you about your new rental adventure. Campervan owners Max and Jonathan offered a discounted rental to friends, and found that they were more likely to leave good reviews and spread the word about their trips.

#7. Invest in high-quality visual content.

Take good photos of your RV, and use them to tell a story about the adventure that a traveler can have if they rent. Jody Rath, who goes by “CamperVanGuy” on YouTube, even creates his own video walkthroughs of his RV.

#8. Tag your social media with #NeverIdle and @outdoorsy.

If you’re posting on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or even LinkedIn, you should tag Outdoorsy’s social media accounts. We can “like” your post and help your friends to learn more about RV rental.

#9. Get featured on the #NeverIdle Journal.

We are always on the lookout for great owner stories to share on the #Neveridle journal. Being featured on this blog means you will be advertising your rig while also inspiring others to rent out their RVs and grow their rental businesses. To be featured, make sure to share your stories and marketing ideas with the Outdoorsy RV Owner Community.

Of course, these are just a few of the wonderful ways you can improve your marketing and help your business grow bigger and stronger. Any tips that we missed? Be sure to let readers know about them in the comments below.
