Pigeon Forge is a hopping mountain resort town that many Tennesseans travel to to escape the grind of city life. It’s an excellent destination too for RV campers as there are many RV parks located next to the popular tourist attractions.

One such park is the Pine Mountain RV Park. It’s a highly-rated campground located very close to the Great Smoky Mountains or the ‘Smokies.’

Pine Mountain RV Park: An Overview

Pine Mountain RV Park is a full-service RV park perched at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The mountain range serves as an awe-inspiring backdrop for Pigeon Forge. And the vistas just get better when you camp at Pine Mountain RV Park.

The nearest major city to Pigeon Forge is Knoxville. Thousands of tourists come to this resort town to camp and hike the Smokies. From Knoxville, the distance to the RV park is around 27.7 miles when you follow the US Route 441. 

There’s another route which is the Interstate-40 E. It is lengthier but takes around the same time because of better driving conditions.

The Pine Mountain RV Park isn’t far away from central Pigeon Forge. A few minutes’ drive from the resort town will take you to the park, which is located closer to the mountain.

The entrance has a beautiful design with ample space for parking and check-ins. As you drive through the paved roads, you’ll find a park-like setting with a lot of trees and a well-maintained landscape.

There are 60 RV sites within the park, all of which are concrete and fairly leveled. All of them are full hook-ups but vary by pull-in and pull-through parking methods. The RV sites are quite spacious, but the maximum allowed length for the rigs is 60 feet.

The Pine Mountain RV Park is located ‘by the Creek.’ All RV sites at the back end of the park have a creekside setting. You can hear the water flowing through as you grill the sausages by your RV.

Besides the RV sites, the Pine Mountain RV Park also has cabins for accommodation.

There are a lot of fun activities to do both within and around the park. You can visit the Great Smoky Mountains on the same day of your arrival or take your kids to the Titanic Museum Attraction. The famous Dollywood theme park is within 10 miles.

All in all, Pine Mountain RV Park is a complete package for a weekend RV camping trip.

Amenities at Pine Mountain RV Park, Pigeon Forge

The amenities available at the campsite are of primary concern to most campers. Rest assured, the park has got everything to make your stay comfortable and memorable. Here are some of the amenities available at Pine Mountain RV Park:

Full Hook-up RV Sites

There are 60 RV sites in Pine Mountain RV Park, and all of them are full hook-up sites. At each site, you have 30/50-amps power, water, sewer, and cable TV. Along with that, you can request picnic tables and fire rings.

There are both back-in and pull-through RV sites. The back-in sites measure 30-50 feet in length, while pull-through sites are 30-45 feet.

The RV park also has premium sites located along the creek, which can accommodate rigs up to 60 feet long. Concrete leveled sites ensure all-season camping. The sites are spacious, with ample space in between.

With greenery and cleanliness all around, you’d love every minute of camping at these sites.

Cabin Rentals

The RV park has two camping cabins for campers who prefer a cozier accommodation option. Inside each cabin, you’d find two bedrooms, one private bathroom, a full-fledged kitchen and dining space, flat-screen TV, and a sitting area with couches.

There’s also a small picnic area near the porch. You can set up a charcoal grill and enjoy the mountain views as the food gets prepared.

Campers staying in cabins have access to the same facilities within the park as RV campers.

The creekside resort has a pool where you can refresh after a tiring day. It is located at the park entrance across the road. 

At first sight, you might think that the pool is intended only for guests at MainStay Suites (now LeConte Hotel & Convention Center). But it’s open to campers of Pine Mountain RV Park.

There are sun loungers where you can take a breather and sip on your favorite beverage.

Restroom with Showers 

The Pine Mountain RV Park has on-site restrooms in different sections. Since these are equipped with showers, you can take a hot bath before going to bed or after arriving at the park.

The staff regularly cleans the premises and maintains a high level of hygienic standards. Also, the bathrooms are open 24X7 for you to use.

Dump Station

The RV park has an on-site dump station to maintain cleanliness. You can empty your black and gray tanks by connecting them to the sewer. There’s also a tank riser to help you clean the tanks after emptying. 

The dump station is free to use for all campers within the park. But extra vehicles or outsiders will be charged for each use.

Laundry

Most RV parks have on-site laundry facilities, and the Pine Mountain RV Park is not an exception. There’s a laundromat a few meters away from the entrance gate. It’s small, but you’ll find both cleaners and dryers. 

Make sure to carry change since these are coin-operated. In case you’re out of coins, the reservation counter may help. Like most other facilities in the park, the laundromat is open 24X7 for your convenience.

General Store

The park has a general store inside the premises where you can pick up groceries and other essential items. Campers don’t have to pay extra as the prices as on par with any other location.

The store is open till late at night for your convenience. So need to freak out if you run out of pepper for dinner.

Activities to do in and Near Pine Mountain RV Park

Pigeon Forge is a popular resort town with a laid-back ambiance and country charm. Also, it’s not short on activities and can keep you fairly busy throughout your stay. Here are some of the activities you get to do in and around Pine Mountain RV Park:

Hike at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park

There are very few places in the US with 500,000 acres of wilderness perfectly preserved. At Pigeon Forge, you have the opportunity to hike at one of the oldest uplands on earth.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park maintained by the NPS has 800 miles of hiking trails. Along the way, you’ll uncover hundreds of years of old trees, breathtaking streams, waterfalls, and awe-inspiring flowering plants. There’s ample wildlife, and you may spot an entire deer family on certain days.

The best trail in the national park is perhaps the Appalachian Trail that leads up to the tip-top of the Smokies.

With no entrance fees applicable, you can explore the best of Southern Appalachian wilderness for free.

Adventure Activities at Big Rock Dude Ranch

Big Rock Dude Ranch is the ideal place in Pigeon Forge for those looking for some adrenaline-pumping activities.

Located 3 miles from the Pine Mountain RV Park, you can hop on the horses at the ranch and go horseback riding along the woody trails. Or you can cover the trails on an ATV bike.

Other activities offered at the ranch include fishing, gem mining, and picnicking.

There’s a petting zoo where you can feed the animals. A heritage museum within the ranch contains local exhibits from the Civil War era. So you can look forward to a full day of entertainment.

Wander at Little Pigeon River

Very few people are aware of this small waterway that flows alongside the Smokies in Sevier County. It’s a bird watching paradise with a large number of bird species inhabiting the trees.

The two-mile-long trail, the Riverwalk Greenway, will lead you through picturesque spots. It travels alongside the river, and you can spot a few animal species quenching their thirst on the banks.

The river is also ideal for fishing. Select a section of the river and take out your fishing line. 

That’s not all. You can also rent a tube and splash down the river. You’ll come across this river on your way to the Smokies. So add it to your travel itinerary.

Spend a day at Dollywood

The Dollywood amusement park is a must-visit for anyone coming to Pigeon Forge. It’s quite famous as well because of the investment from Dolly Parton.

Spanning 300 acres, the family-friendly park has everything from adventure rides to a waterpark to a museum to shops and luxury suites.

The rides consist of thrilling roller coasters, water excursions, and pendulums. There are smaller rides for the kids as well.

Another similar destination you should consider is the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster. It features low-level coaster rides where you can ride along with your kids. You’ll also get mesmerizing views from a height, which aren’t accessible by foot.

Historical Sightseeing

Pigeon Forge is a town that was founded way back in 1700. Thus, it is brimming with history.

If you’re visiting the Little Pigeon River (and you must), make a stop at Old Mill Square. You’ll find a big wooden gristmill that was built 178 years ago.

Then make your way up to Elkmont, an abandoned vacation town inside Smoky Mountains National Park. You’ll find abandoned homes built in the 1920s and 30s. Cades Cove and Little Greenbrier are similar places of historical significance near the Smokies.

Other than that, there’s a Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge. It’s a half-scale replica of the original ship located three miles from the RV park. You’ll find replicas of telescopes, tattered life jackets, and other pre-discovered artifacts. 

Mini Golf at Grave Golf Club

Want to play some golf? Head over to the Grave Golf Club, which has two mini-golf courses. One course is a 19-hole candy-themed indoor course, while the other is a 19-hole rooftop course.

Besides mini golf, there are mini bowling lanes and candy shops.

After the mini-games, you can take your kids to the escape room, where action-packed adventure awaits. Beat the clock and plan and escape as you’re trapped inside a deep-sea submarine or zombie lab.

For field golf, you can drive down to the Bent Creek Golf Course, 18 miles away from the RV Park. It’s a par 72 course with a Smoky Mountain backdrop.

Explore the Forbidden Caverns

Did you know that Tennessee is home to thousands of caves that outnumber any other US state? At Pigeon Forge, you have the opportunity to explore one of them, which is the Forbidden Caverns.

The Caverns are located beneath the Smoky Mountains but on a different side. You’d have to travel 20 miles from the RV park to reach this place.

After arriving at the Forbidden Caverns, you’ll witness everything from underground streams to stalagmites. Some of the areas inside the cave have been decked and equipped with light and stereo sound.

Another interesting fact is that the inside temperature of the Forbidden Caverns is always at 60° F. You can stay cool and escape the heat waves during the summer months.

The fun doesn’t stop here, and there are many more things you can do at Pigeon Forge. Whether it’s visiting the upside-down building, WonderWorks, or the Hollywood Wax Museum, the list goes on.

Pine Mountain RV Park Rates

Pine Mountain RV Park is affordable to most RV campers. The price starts at $45 per night and goes all the way up to $100 per day for premium sites.

Every site accommodates six campers. And additional campers will be billed at $3 per night.

The rates vary based on seasonality and availability. Camping at peak season will cost you 20-40% more. Here’s the high season timeline for Pine Mountain RV park when the rates are high:

  • April 4-9 (Spring Car Show)
  • May 27-31 (Memorial Day)
  • Jun 1- Aug 31 (Summers)
  • Sep 1-30 (Labor day and Car shows)
  • Oct 1-29 (Fall)
  • Nov 21-26 (Thanksgiving)

Reservation at Pine Mountain RV Park

Pine Mountain RV Park allows you to book the RV sites online. You can visit the online portal, specify the arrival and departure dates, and view a list of available sites. Select a site of your choice and confirm your booking. 

Please note that there are no refunds when you cancel your booking. So make sure you’re available for the trip.

You can also reserve at the counter, but it’s subject to availability.

Other RV Parks to Consider in Pigeon Forge, TN

During the peak season, you may miss out on sites at Pine Mountain RV Park. But there are other RV parks to consider. Here are some recommended parks:

Up the Creek RV Camp

The Up the Creek RV Camp is bordered by two creeks (Walden and Cove) that are crystal clear and stocked with fish. With lots of shade trees, you’ll love staying at this campground. It’s five miles from Pine Mountain RV Park.

Each RV site has a large concrete patio along with water and sewer hook-ups. Along with that, you have cable TV, Wi-Fi, and a fire-ring. Each site is unique with respect to amenities and location.

The rates start from $53 per night for a full hook-up classic site. The price for deluxe sites with a fireplace is set at $70 per night. The cost goes up during the fall season when more campers come into the area.

Creekside RV Park

This park is located along Walden Creek and close to everything East Tennessee has to offer.

The family-owned park has full hook-up sites with power, sewer, and cable hook hook-ups. These can accommodate rigs up to 60-feet in length. Inside the park, you’ll find a swimming pool, self-service laundry, camp store, and private picnic area.

The standard RV sites at the Creekside Park cost $54 per night. Sites located along Walden Creek will cost $56 per night.

From the Creekside RV Park, you’ll have easier access to the Great Smoky Mountain, Dollywood, and other thrilling sites.

Twin Creek RV Resort

As opposed to other parks, the Twin Creek RV Resort is located in Gatlinburg, just outside the Great Smoky Mountains. This is the closest you can get to the Smokies.

Twin Creek has full hook-up sites, which are paved and have a cement patio with bench seating. The sites are big enough to accommodate 45-foot motorhomes and fifth trailers.

Since it is an RV resort, you can expect a swimming pool and a mini pool for kids. On top of that, it has a jacuzzi, boutique, and restrooms.

The rates are slightly higher and start from $88 per night.
