If you’re planning a trip out west, Volcano RV Camping is a pretty great way to see the Pacific Coast. You could hit California, Oregon and Washington and catch incredible views, amazing hikes, and be assured of great RV hookups. Here are three RV sites that can get you near these geological wonders with your RV in tow.
Eleven miles east of Mt Shasta City and off of Interstate 5, McCloud is a historic town that offers views of the Mount Shasta along with great RV options for families. Full hookups are available and families can plan day trips to hike the surrounding area and enjoy the scenery.
Be aware that the area can be very hot in the summer months. Avoid peak sunshine hours if you can.
There are plenty of day hikes available, including lava domes that can get you up above the forest canopy to get a better view of the mountain and below.
Any western volcano tour has to involve a stop at the Mount Hood National Forest.
Mount Hood Is 50 miles east of Portland, OR, and within the National Forest there are ample options for RV camping. Mt. Hood is an incredibly popular locale (with its proximity to Portland) and booking early is recommended. The Lost Lake Campground (shown right) has 148 campsites, a public boat launch, an accessible fishing dock and numerous trails. Mount Hood is considered a safe place to visit, but this is still an active volcano.
Mt Hood is Oregon’s highest mountain and is majestic to see in person.
Continue your RV travels up Interstate 5 and into Washington State, and another worthwhile camping site is the national park surrounding Mount Rainier. Located southeast of Seattle, Mount Rainier welcomes RV camping in the surrounding national park in three campsites:
2. Ohanapecosh (Located in the Southeast section of park)
3. White River (Located in the Northeast section of park)
Mount Rainier’s summit is considered a glacier with a visitor center and viewing area that is over 6,000 feet high. This offers views of both Mount Rainier and other nearby cascade volcanoes. There are plenty of trails for your family to enjoy hiking and the wilderness in the area as well amazing volcano RV camping.
