Traveling For Work? Skip The Plane And Rent An RV

So your job requires you to be on the road. Perhaps you’re traveling a few days each quarter, or maybe you’re one of those business travelers who racks up so many hotel reward points that you have to give them away before they expire. Either way, you’re probably always looking for ways to make business trips less stressful and fit some “me” time into the work day—even better if you can save on your travel expenses at the same time.

These may sound like lofty goals, but they’re more achievable than you might think. All you have to do is break out of the hotel habit and rent an RV for your next business trip.

Imagine starting your work day surrounded by nature, with mountains and rivers right outside your door? Instead of a generic, cookie-cutter hotel room, you’re living in a space that feels like home, all while reducing your travel costs. Let’s consider the perks.

Easy booking

Renting an RV is as easy as booking your hotel room. Set search filters for your destination and travel dates to view a list of available RVs. Narrow the results with price, type of RV, or renter ratings feedback. You can even choose features that are most important to you, like a bike rack, outdoor grill, full kitchen, or a washer-dryer.

Flexible location and set up

With an RV, you’re not locked into staying off interstate exit ramps surrounded by fast food chains and gas stations. Reserve a campsite at a state park with hiking and biking trails—or book a private campground site with amenities like a pool or on-site dining—and have your rental delivered to your campsite. All you have to do is get the campfire going, sit back, and relax.

Cost savings

Just like hotel rooms, nightly rates for RV rentals vary depending on how large and luxurious you’d like your rig to be. Travel trailers with minimal amenities are comparable to economy hotels, while Class A motorhomes line up with luxury hotel rooms. Typically you’ll increase your cost savings with a long term rental, and saving on other travel costs like dining and gas is easy with most everything you need included in your RV.

Work-friendly amenities

Think glamping over camping when you’re renting your RV for a business trip. Choose a rental with a full bath and linens, toiletries, and a hair dryer included so you can shower and be ready for your meetings just like you would in a hotel. If you’ll be working remotely, choose a rig with a desk or dinette space that you can use as an office and tap into the campground Wi-Fi to stay connected.

Better work-life balance

Strike a healthy balance between work and pleasure when you’re on the road by starting your day with a sunrise hike before heading into the office. Breakfast at the picnic table, surrounded by birds chirping and the wind in the trees, is a far cry from muffins and CNN blaring in the hotel lobby. To wind down the day, return to your campsite for an evening stroll or read a book by the campfire—or be adventurous and squeeze in a sunset paddle on a nearby lake. The next morning, you’ll be glad you took the time to step back and refresh.

Bonus: One of the best things about staying in an RV is that you don’t have to go it alone. Many RV rentals are pet- and family-friendly—meaning your family can pack their day with fun while you’re at the office, allowing you to reconnect at the end of the day over dinner and S’mores.

Health benefits

Stress, dining out, and limited access to fresh foods can derail the most dedicated healthy eating habits when you’re traveling for business. Renting an RV with a full kitchen lets you prepare home-cooked meals and stock snacks and drinks that keep your eating on track. Select a rental with a stove, oven, microwave, and home-size refrigerator and freezer so you won’t miss a beat when it comes to meal planning.

To take full advantage of your natural surroundings, carve out time each day for exercise. Hotel treadmills will be a distant memory as you hike to a scenic overlook or jog around the campground lake.

Team travel

Why not turn the stress of traveling with a group into fun? Next time you’re traveling for a corporate retreat or team meeting, consider renting a group campsite, or reserving adjacent individual sites for multiple RV rentals. In addition to the cost savings over traditional group lodging, a campground stay offers a chance to bond and build camaraderie with your peers in a relaxed setting (just think of all the cash you’ll save by stepping away from the hotel bar).
